Turning on PHPLayers

Sorry for this newbish question but the tikiwiki main site just has this about phplayer:

turn on the PHPlayers feature under Admin > Features
Create a new custom menu under Admin > Menu
Apply the phpLayersMenu in a user module at Admin > Module
Assign this user module to a column

i am unclear how this is installed (or copied?) and how my tikiwiki knows about it

To use menus in a module or a template, use {menu id=x}, where x is the ID of the menu. To use phplayersmenu, you can use one of the three following syntaxes: {phplayers id=47}, {phplayers id=47 type=horiz}, {phplayers id=47 type=vert}. This will work well (or not!) depending on your theme.

I gathered that a new menu and module is required from the damian.css guide:

http://tikiwiki.org/tiki-index.php?page=damian.css&bl

however where do you put the syntax (eg {phplayers id=47} ) for instance? is phplayer a module in tikiwiki?

You can change the "id" parameter in the tiki.tpl and error.tpl files located in "template/sytle/theStyleYouWantToChange".
